Some Tips For Choosing the Right Lawn Mower Tires and Keeping Them Maintained

Many homeowners with big yards own a riding lawnmower to take some of the grunt work out of maintaining the lawn (or in my case, they're just fun to ride). If you own one of these machines, you should know that an important part of keeping your mower in overall good condition is to pay attention to your tires and make sure to keep them well maintained.

If you let your tires become under-inflated or let the tread wear thin, your tires could end up spinning as you use the mower, which would obviously not be good for your grass. One of the things you should keep in mind when first purchasing your riding mower is to make sure you choose good tires in the first place to help deter this problem.

As with purchasing tires for your car, truck, or other vehicle, you need to take a few things into consideration when choosing the right ones for your mower. First thing of course is to make sure you get the correct size for your particular mower model. This may seem like a daunting task since there are so many different sizes, but the tires are marked, so just write these numbers so you have easy access to that info when shopping.

Next, you will have to consider the type of terrain where you will be running your lawn mower. There are several different types of tires that correspond to the different types of terrain; for example you could be riding on soft and moist land, or something dryer and harder. Whatever the case, it's good to know what land you'll be using the mower on ahead of time so you can get the optimal tires for your particular type of lawn.

If you want to get a lot of high quality use from your tires, you need to check up on the air pressure at least once a week and inflate as needed. When mower tires where out, 9 times out of 10 the problem is due to not checking the air pressure often enough, so get in the habit of checking every week and your tires should last you for years to come.
